Moore, Lierman, Brown Cruise to Democratic Nominations; Cox Wins GOP Primary

Maryland voters delivered decisive primary victories Tuesday in the races for governor, comptroller, and attorney general, finalizing the major-party statewide tickets for the November general election.

Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller overwhelmingly won the Democratic nomination, receiving 361,620 votes (87.8%). Eric Felber and LaTrece Hawkins Lytes received 50,307 votes (12.2%).

On the Republican side, Dan Cox and Rob Krop secured the nomination with 78,314 votes (45.2%), defeating a crowded field. Ed Hale and Tyrone Keys, Jr. finished second with 61,860 votes (35.7%), followed by John Myrick and Brenda Thiam with 10,704 votes (6.2%). Carl Brunner and Kevin Rhodes received 9,637 votes (5.6%), while the remaining candidates each received less than 3% of the vote.

In the comptroller’s race, incumbent Comptroller Brooke Lierman secured the Democratic nomination unopposed with 367,544 votes. Sonya Dunn won the Republican nomination unopposed with 134,001 votes.

Attorney General Anthony Brown also advanced without opposition in the Democratic primary, receiving 371,724 votes. James Rutledge III secured the Republican nomination with 135,035 votes.

The gubernatorial primary was the only statewide contest with multiple candidates on the ballot, but the outcome was decisive. Moore and Miller won the Democratic nomination by more than 75 percentage points, while Cox and Krop secured the Republican nomination by nearly 10 percentage points.

Maryland voters can expect the following statewide matchups in November:

Governor/Lt. Governor: Wes Moore and Aruna Miller (D) vs. Dan Cox and Rob Krop (R)

Comptroller: Brooke Lierman (D) vs. Sonya Dunn (R)

Attorney General: Anthony Brown (D) vs. James Rutledge III (R)
