St. Mary’s County Primary Results Roundup

St. Mary’s County has term limits on its Commissioners, affecting the 2026 election — primary results are summarized below as the county will see multiple leadership changes.

St. Mary's County SealIn the at-large race for County Commission President, incumbent Randy Guy was term limited, so a field of new aspirants competed. Tom Jarboe, who served as a Commissioner from 2014-2018, has won the Republican primary and will face AnnMarie Abell in the November general election.

In District 1, incumbent Eric Colvin was unopposed in his primary and will face Democrat Sheila Milburn.

In District 2, Tom Phelan won the Republican primary over former Commissioner Thomas McKay, and will face Democrat Brandon Russell in the general election.

In District 3, no primaries were contested, but multiple candidates will compete in the general election, including Republican John O’Connor (a former Commissioner), Democrat Joshua Kyte, and incumbent Commissioner Mike Alderson, running unaffiliated due to a federal employment conflict.

In District 4, incumbent Scott Ostrow prevailed in his Republican primary and will face Ryan Daniels in the general election.
