Prince George’s County is bringing several health and human services agencies together under one roof to improve collaboration, streamline service
delivery, and expand access to public services for residents.
The Maryland Board of Public Works recently approved the relocation of the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services’ administrative and adult services operations to the county’s new Health and Human Services (HHS) Building in Capitol Heights. The move will co-locate the department with the Prince George’s County Health Department and the Department of Family Services in a shared facility designed to encourage greater coordination among agencies.
County and state officials say the centralized location will strengthen partnerships among agencies that frequently serve the same residents and make it easier for staff to coordinate services for older adults, families, and other vulnerable populations.
“This move represents an incredible opportunity for us to strengthen our relationships and collaborate closer with our sister agencies,” said Jennifer Amaya Thompson, director of the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services. “By sharing this state-of-the-art space, we are dismantling silos and creating more seamless, integrated models of care for Prince Georgians.”
In addition to housing health and human service agencies, the new building includes a Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission senior center, expanding access to programs and resources for older adults in the community. While administrative and adult services operations relocate to the new facility, other Department of Social Services programs, including Family Investment and Child Welfare services, will continue operating from their existing locations throughout Prince George’s County.
