I, Teacher…Education in the Virtual Age at #MACoCon

The future of education will be driven by advancements in and applications of innovative new technologies. At #MACoCon local leaders will come together to discuss the benefits and potential costs of integrating those resources.

As counties continue to invest in the future of public education, understanding the rapidly evolving role of technology in classrooms is essential. This session will provide county leaders, education stakeholders, and policymakers with valuable insight into how artificial intelligence, digital learning tools, and emerging technologies are transforming teaching and learning across Maryland. With counties playing a critical role in funding and supporting local school systems, this conversation will help identify both the opportunities and challenges created by technology integration, including impacts on workforce needs, infrastructure, student outcomes, and the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. Attendees will gain a better understanding of how local governments can support innovation while ensuring new technologies are implemented thoughtfully, equitably, and in a way that strengthens Maryland’s long-term education goals.

Title: I, Teacher…Education in the Virtual Age

Description: With an audit underway, year four of implementing the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future (Blueprint) has ended leaving school officials with an opportunity to reflect. In looking back on legislation establishing this statewide education reform plan, one thing has become resoundingly clear – technology is changing the look and feel of K-12 education in ways that could not have been foreseen by lawmakers at the time. These advances are reshaping teaching and learning, and while new resources present an opportunity, they can introduce significant disruption as the adoption and creative destruction processes interchange more rapidly than ever before. This session will explore how these shifts are impacting classrooms, whether the Blueprint is equipped to respond, and what updates may be necessary to ensure Maryland’s reforms keep pace with a technology-driven future.
