MACo’s 2026 Summer Conference, “Build What’s Next,” brought more than 3,000 county leaders, state officials, policymakers, partners, and professionals to Ocean City from August 12-15 for four packed days of learning, collaboration, and connection. #MACoCon once again brought together voices from across Maryland and beyond to tackle today’s challenges while looking ahead at what’s next for local government.

This year’s program took on some of the biggest issues shaping Maryland’s counties, from artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to the changing public workforce, infrastructure, energy and data centers, housing, education, elections, economic development, and more. The one-day Tech Expo put emerging technology front and center, giving attendees opportunities to explore new tools, connect with experts, and dig deeper into how innovation is changing the way counties work and serve their residents.

The conference also brought together leaders from every level of government for conversations on Maryland’s future. U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen returned to the #MACoCon stage for a Federal Forum, while Saturday featured discussions on the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, technology in K-12 education, and a Statewide Candidates Forum focused on issues important to county governments. Beyond the sessions, attendees packed the Exhibit Halls, connected with hundreds of exhibitors and partners, and continued the conversations at networking events throughout the week: from the Taste of Maryland Reception, celebrating Maryland’s local food, beverage, and tourism industries, to MACo’s signature Crab Feast.
