Cybersecurity threats continue to target local governments and public infrastructure across Maryland, but new state and federal resources are available to help communities strengthen their defenses.
The Maryland Department of Emergency Management, Department of Information Technology, and the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) Planning Committee are releasing another round of funding through the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program, with applications opening in August 2026.
For FY 2024, Maryland was awarded $4.9 million, with the majority directed to local jurisdictions and at least 25% reserved for rural jurisdictions. Eligible projects can support cybersecurity best practices, policy and governance, jurisdiction-specific cybersecurity needs, and workforce development.
Counties, municipalities, school districts, and other local government entities are eligible to apply.
In addition to funding, Maryland’s Local Cybersecurity Team offers cybersecurity expertise and support through the Maryland Local Cybersecurity Collaborative, including cybersecurity maturity assessments and remediation planning.
