Washington County Commissioners Primary Outcomes

Washington County elects its five County Commissioners at-large. Three incumbents from the all-Republican slate will advance through their primary to the November general election.

The three incumbent Commissioners seeking re-election — John Barr, Jeff Cline, and Randal Leatherman — prevailed in a multi-way at-large Republican primary, and will be among the general election candidates in November. Joining them on the ballot will be former Commissioner and current school board member Charles Burkett, and career fire/EMS captain Dan Young.

From the Democratic primary, the winners were Jonathan Fish, Les McIntosh, Sr., Teri Pailen, Lara A. Shepherd, and Dave Williams.

The county has been represented by an all-Republican Board of Commissioners since the 2010 election, but the margin of total votes in the 2026 primaries was only roughly 3:2, so the November general election may prove to be consequential.
