The Maryland Correctional Administrators Association (MCAA) honored Employees and Officers of the Year at the 2026 MCAA Conference, recognizing the vital work detention center staff do on behalf of communities and incarcerated individuals.
Maryland’s local detention centers and correctional facilities recently recognized their Employees and Officers of the Year, honoring professionals whose dedication, leadership, and commitment help keep facilities safe while supporting positive outcomes for those in their care. The honorees represent county detention centers, sheriff’s offices, and local correctional institutions from across Maryland, serving in roles that range from correctional officers and supervisors to health services administrators, classification specialists, and community supervision coordinators. Their work often takes place behind the scenes, but it is essential to maintaining secure operations and ensuring individuals have access to the services and support needed during incarceration and reentry.
Modern correctional professionals play a critical role far beyond facility security. They help connect incarcerated individuals with educational opportunities, behavioral health services, medical care, workforce training, and reentry planning designed to reduce recidivism and improve long-term outcomes. Through daily interactions, these employees and officers promote accountability, stability, and rehabilitation while helping prepare individuals for a successful return to their communities. Recognition programs such as Employee and Officer of the Year provide an opportunity to highlight the professionalism and dedication of correctional staff whose efforts contribute to safer facilities, stronger communities, and more effective correctional systems throughout Maryland.
