Baltimore City Expands Public Safety Dashboard With New Neighborhood-Level Data

Baltimore City has announced a major update to its Public Safety Accountability Dashboard, expanding the public-facing tool with new neighborhood-level data and additional information on violence prevention, law enforcement activity, and community safety trends.

First launched in 2023, the dashboard serves as a centralized platform for tracking a range of public safety indicators and is designed to improve transparency around crime trends and violence prevention efforts across the city.

The latest update adds new data on arrests, neighborhood homeownership rates, victim demographics, and Baltimore’s community violence intervention ecosystem, including Safe Streets sites and hospital-based violence intervention programs. The dashboard also tracks neighborhood stabilization efforts and the City’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS).

Mayor Brandon Scott said the dashboard is intended to give residents and stakeholders a clearer view of public safety trends and allow progress to be measured over time.

From the press release:

“Our Public Safety Accountability Dashboard helps ensure that everyone who lives, works, and plays in Baltimore has a clear view into what’s happening in our city when it comes to public safety,” Scott said.

For local governments, the expanded dashboard reflects a broader trend toward using public-facing data tools to improve transparency, track performance, and support more targeted public safety strategies. Additionally, as jurisdictions continue balancing crime reduction efforts with community trust and accountability, dashboards like Baltimore’s may offer a model for how other local governments can make public safety data more accessible and actionable.

Baltimore officials say the dashboard will continue evolving, with future updates expected to add regional demographic and household income data.
