This training session will provide local government staff with valuable insights into improving Critical Area mitigation efforts, including strategies for optimizing Critical Area fee-in-lieu programs. Attendees will also gain hands-on experience with two new tools designed to support mitigation efforts:
- Restoration and Resiliency Mapper – A powerful tool for identifying and prioritizing restoration opportunities to strengthen climate resilience in Maryland’s coastal regions.
- Flood Visualization Tool – A resource designed to help visualize flood risks and guide mitigation planning for vulnerable areas.
Additionally, Critical Area Commission staff will discuss upcoming regulatory changes and how climate resiliency and equity considerations will be integrated into Critical Area programs. These updates reflect recent amendments to Maryland’s Natural Resources Article and highlight the state’s commitment to sustainable, equitable environmental management.
Local governments play a key role in enforcing Critical Area regulations and ensuring the protection of Maryland’s waterways and coastal habitats. By attending this training, local staff will be better equipped with knowledge, tools, and resources to enhance mitigation strategies and implement best practices in their communities.
