Maryland’s new Department of Service and Civic Innovation and the Service Year Option program are now up and running. 2023 legislation supported by MACo created both. The law and program specifically target local governments to host fellows in various fields, providing hands-on experience in public service and strengthening the pipeline to county government and filling open positions.

Additionally, the Department is recruiting hosts — like county governments — to   host Maryland Corps participants. Maryland Corps is an opportunity for people of all ages interested in performing public and community service in Maryland. Like the Service Year Option, members will work in organizations that will provide job training and professional development, and earn a minimum of $15 dollars an hour.

On August 23, MACo hosted a webinar with the Department to discuss the two programs and how counties can partner with the State to host participants. Video of the webinar is below.

Apply to be a Partner by August 31, 2023. Indicate your interest in becoming a host partner here.
