Education Dive’s roundup of state legislatures’ education policy enactments from the last year shows a widespread focus on teachers issues, an expansion of school resource officers, and expanded mental health services.
Unsurprisingly, teacher issues (some in the wake of highly publicized strikes and demonstrations in state capitals) topped this year’s education agenda in many state capitals.

Upward of 1,418 bills were introduced on teaching issues alone this year, and a total of 191 have reached the governors’ desks so far. Most of these proposals addressed teacher compensation and certification and/or licensure, which remain growing concerns among educators. However, lawmakers varied widely in their approaches to tackling teaching issues.
School security, and mental health offerings, rounded out the recent trends covered in the article.
