Question: Did you know that one town in Allegany County goes by two names?
It’s true! The town is Pekin (Nikep). This place has two names as you can plainly see. One is spelled forward and one is spelled backward. The official Maryland map calls it “Pekin (Nikep) ” The postal service calls it Nikep. Long-time residents call it Pekin. Utility-company bills are sent to Nikep.
