The autonomous vehicle industry is booming.

The development of self-driving, or autonomous, vehicles is accelerating. The first autonomous systems, which are able to control steering, accelerating, and braking are already beginning to appear in cars. This emerging industry will require local governments to be prepared for the testing, licensing, and regulation of autonomous vehicles. At this year’s MACo Summer Conference, you can learn about how state and local officials plan to address autonomous vehicles and other emerging vehicle technology.

Here are more details:

Title: Are We There Yet? Autonomous Vehicles and the Future of Transportation

Description: Autonomous vehicles, also known as self-driving cars, have advanced control systems that detect their surroundings and interpret the sensory information to successfully navigate passengers to their destination. While we are not yet in the age of fleets of Knight Rider KITTs or fleets of fully autonomous vehicles chauffeuring us to and fro, the concept of self-driving cars is slowly but surely coming to fruition. As numerous companies and research organizations work to develop prototypes, government officials prepare for their arrival. In this session, learn more about autonomous vehicles as well as the legal, policy, safety, and infrastructure developments underway as state and local officials plan for the future of driverless transportation.
