Washington County hosted the 2015 County Administrators Conference, which brought together county administrators from across the state to discuss issues of importance to county government.
As reported by the Hagerstown Herald-Mail,
The conference allowed visiting leaders to learn more about Washington County and to share best practices with their colleagues from other areas of the state, according to a county news release.
The itinerary on Thursday included touring the Hagerstown Regional Airport and the Volvo Group Trucks plant.
Most of Friday was spent on group and jurisdiction-specific discussions, including a presentation by Christopher Shank, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention.
Mr. Shank, who is chairing the State’s Justice Reinvestment Coordinating Council (JRCC), discussed the Justice Reinvestment Initiative and its effect on local jails. The JRCC is examining the State’s sentencing structure and will be making recommendations to reduce Maryland’s prison population, improve criminal justice outcomes, and reduce needless correctional spending. He almost commented about pretrial reform and approaches for addressing mental illness and addiction issues in state and local jails.
Kevin Karpinski, with Karpinski, Colaresi & Karp, also presented before the group Friday discussing employee use of social media in the workplace. His presentation focused on the legalities of disciplining employees who may use personal social media sites inappropriately and provided social media policy considerations.
