MACo December 2013 Winter Conference Session – Social Media for Parks & Rec

 

MACo’s December 2013 Winter Conference is rapidly approaching and will take place from December 11-13 at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, Maryland.  The theme of the conference is “#CountiesConnect” and one panel will examine the importance of social media in highlighting and promoting county parks and recreation facilities.

Description:  Social media is a valuable outreach tool that can assist county parks and recreation departments in connecting with citizens and recreational organizations.  Panelists will discuss how counties can leverage social media, including Twitter and websites like Facebook, to attract new users, disseminate news and event notices, and more actively engage with the parks and recreation and athletic league communities.

  3. Paul Dial, Director, Frederick County Parks & Recreation Division

Anna Hunter and Kristen Conn will provide a “nuts and bolts” analysis of how to create an effective social media campaign that promote the visibility of and increase attendance at county recreation facilities and events.  Paul Dial will discuss the benefits of such a program from a manager’s point of view.  The panel will actively link to various social media websites and show real-time examples of parks and recreation social media outreach efforts.
