Charles County Speed Camera Program To Begin Shortly

A July 3 Associated Press notice in the Washington Examiner announced the pending launch of Charles County’s new speed camera program.  The program will begin around July 9 and be managed by the County Sheriff’s Office.  Per State law, camera locations will be limited to school zones.

There will be a 30-day warning phase, during which motorists who exceed the speed limit by 12 miles per hour or more in county school zones will receive warning notices. Afterward, a fine of $40 will be a given to motorists who exceed the posted speed limit.

The County Council adopted legislation which authorized the use of speed cameras by the Sheriff’s Office in 2010.
