With the weakened economy, much attention has been pointed towards educational and training opportunities for both the displaced and emerging workforce. US Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is among officials engaging in a multi-day tour of community colleges this week, emphasizing the importance of workforce training and career development offerings.
From a White House web release:
On February 22, Dr. Jill Biden and U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis will embark on a three-day “Community College to Career” bus tour to highlight innovative industry partnerships that are helping train students with the skills they need to meet area workforce needs.
President Obama recently announced a new $8 billion Community College to Career Fund co-administered by the Department of Labor and Department of Education to forge new partnerships between community colleges and businesses to train two million workers with skills that will lead directly to jobs.
