Maryland Unemployment Rate Improves

The Baltimore Business Journal reports that according to state labor department statistics that the state’s unemployment rate fell to 6.9 percent in November.  This marks the first time since May 2011 that the unemployment rate has fallen below 7 percent.  (The national unemployment rate is 8.6 percent)

“While this month’s report is another positive sign, our job growth must accelerate to keep Maryland competitive in the new economy,” Alexander Sanchez, secretary of Maryland’s Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, said in a statement. “On-the-job training programs, like the BuildUp program our partners at the State Highway Administration launched earlier this month, go a long way to put Marylanders to work now and equip them with the skills to keep their jobs in tomorrow’s economy.”
