Gazette OpEd on Maintenance of Effort

One of MACo’s legislative initiatives, a reform of the Maintenance of Effort waiver process, has caught fire as a hot issue, especially in light of the denials of two counties’ funding approaches for this year’s budget.

The Gazette Friday featured commentary from regular political columnist Blair Lee on the subject:

“The governor says we’re in the worst economy since the Great Depression, causing the state to reduce its K-12 education funding…  But this didn’t impress the state BOE as it denied Montgomery’s waiver request.”
