Maryland is making more than $4.9 million available to strengthen cybersecurity across state and local governments through the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP).
As previously covered by MACo, the Maryland Department of Emergency Management, Department of Information Technology, and the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) Planning Committee are releasing another round of funding through the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program.
Applications for funding will be accepted through September 22, 2026. Maryland’s SLCGP funding includes $4.9 million from Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2024, along with remaining funds from the FFY 2023 award.
The SLCGP was established through the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to help state, local, tribal, and territorial governments address cybersecurity risks and strengthen the resilience of government information systems.
At least 80% of Maryland’s SLCGP funding will support local jurisdictions, with 25% reserved for rural jurisdictions. All Maryland local governments are eligible to apply, including counties, municipalities, special districts, councils of governments, and other eligible local government entities.
Funding may support cybersecurity projects and services that promote cyber resilience and align with priorities established by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Maryland’s SLCGP plan. Awards will consider statutory requirements, demonstrated need, application quality, and the ability to maintain federal and state grant compliance.
Projects funded through the FFY 2023 award must be completed by September 2027, while FFY 2024-funded projects must be completed by September 2028. A second round of FFY 2023 funding is also available for short-term projects, with applications accepted on a rolling basis.
