New Faces, Returning Leaders Advance in Prince George’s Council Races

Several Prince George’s County Council races produced decisive results Tuesday night, with voters selecting nominees for at-large seats and district contests across the county.

County Council At-Large

Two at-large seats are on the ballot this fall. Council Member Jolene Ivey led the field with 47,601 votes (35.0%), while District 9 Council Member Sydney Harrison secured the second nomination spot with 25,411 votes (18.7%).

Jeana Jacobs finished third with 20,899 votes (15.4%), followed by Keith Washington with 16,312 votes (12.0%).

With all but four precincts reporting, Ivey and Harrison hold commanding leads and will advance to the November general election.

District 1

Michelle García won the Democratic primary with 3,805 votes (63.2%). Martin Mitchell received 2,017 votes (33.5%), while Darwin Romero received 196 votes (3.3%).

District 1 will elect a new council member following the departure of Council Member Tom Dernoga.

District 2

Victor Ramirez secured the Democratic nomination with 2,162 votes (59.9%), defeating Daniel Armando Jones, who received 1,445 votes (40.1%).

District 2 will elect a new council member following the departure of Council Member Wanika Fisher.

District 3

Eric Olson advanced unopposed, receiving 3,733 votes.

District 4

Tim Adams won the Democratic primary with 6,549 votes (61.5%). Euniesha Davis finished second with 2,307 votes (21.7%), followed by Juliet Agocha with 1,798 votes (16.9%).

District 5

Shayla Adams-Stafford cruised to victory with 5,662 votes (85.3%). Wynton Johnson, Sr. received 979 votes (14.7%).

District 6

Danielle Hunter secured the Democratic nomination with 6,507 votes (46.0%). Joel Peebles, Jr. finished second with 5,545 votes (39.2%), followed by Dominique Lamb with 1,500 votes (10.6%).

On the Republican side, Jonathan White won the nomination with 72 votes (58.5%), defeating Michael Jones II, who received 51 votes (41.5%).

District 7

Krystal Oriadha advanced unopposed with 5,533 votes.

District 8

Edward Burroughs III advanced unopposed with 7,539 votes.

District 9

Tamara Davis Brown won the Democratic primary with 7,350 votes (52.3%). Imara Crooms finished second with 2,489 votes (17.7%), followed by Lolita Walker with 2,009 votes (14.3%).

On the Republican side, Jesse Peed advanced unopposed with 280 votes.
