On August 20th, the Maryland Public Information Act Compliance Board will host a public meeting to share findings of their required annual report.

The Public Information Act Compliance Board reviews and resolves complaints related to disputes that arise under the Public Information Act (PIA). This includes concerns brought to the board by a requestor or a custodian, and this is for both state and local government agencies. While the original charge of the group was to examine complaints that a custodian had charged an unreasonable fee, legislation from 2021 updated the statute to include looking at:
- wrongfully denied inspections;
- unreasonable fees;
- failure to respond; and
- whether a request is “frivolous, vexatious, or in bad faith.
Part of this report is meant to include any recommended improvements to the PIA. The meeting will be held by video conference on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. The agenda and the Microsoft Teams access information will be posted on the Board’s website and sent to the Board’s mailing list once they are available. The public is also invited to submit suggestions.
