Queen Anne’s County is updating residents about the historic elm tree at the Historic Courthouse in Centreville.
Due to signs of distress and potential Dutch Elm Disease (DED), the decision has been made to remove the tree to ensure public safety and preserve its legacy.
Removal Date:
- Date: Saturday, July 20th
- Time: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Location: Lawyers Row (closed for the duration)
Details:
Economy Tree Service of Queenstown will handle the removal, which is expected to be completed in one day. To honor the tree’s historical significance, David Boyle from Wood Ingenuity will oversee the process, ensuring the timber is preserved and repurposed for the upcoming renovation of the Historic Courthouse.
This difficult but necessary decision is aimed at protecting the community and courthouse grounds. The Department of Public Works, along with state and local arborists, remains committed to preserving the historical and natural heritage of Centreville.
