Cecil County Executive Hornberger has submitted five names to the County Council to reestablish the Cecil County Commission for Women.
The Commission for Women serves as an advisory board and focuses on issues of importance to women, girls, and their families. Cecil County’s Commission for Women was last active in 2011. In conjunction with the statewide Maryland Commission for Women, Cecil County’s reestablishment will align the county with 14 other Maryland counties who feature active commissions focused on women’s issues.
“I am extremely pleased to reestablish the commission and I would like to thank the appointees for their willingness to serve. Commissions play an important role in providing feedback and direction to county leadership and I fully support providing additional venues for Cecil County women to engage and thrive in Cecil County,” stated County Executive Hornberger.
According to the County press release:
Commissions for Women recognize accomplishments, seek solutions to problems and concerns, and increase community awareness concerning opportunities for women. They do this in many ways, such as: hosting educational programs, conducting research on issues, disseminating information, and providing recommendations.
