As reported in the Baltimore Sun, Washington DC may make a bid for the 2024 Olympics, with a plan to hold sporting events in the Baltimore and Annapolis areas. The Sun quoted Baltimore City Mayor Rawlings-Blake as stating “I am reviewing the DC 2024 proposal, and look forward to discussing this opportunity with our State and regional partners.” The bid would be similar to the one made for the 2012 Olympics, making use of the State’s varied landscape.
As outlined in the 2012 bid, Baltimore would have hosted soccer, gymnastics, cycling, field hockey and triathlon events. The sailing competition would have taken place in the Annapolis area and mountain biking at Patapsco Valley State Park. Organizers of the new proposal say they plan to keep many of the ideas from the earlier bid.
