State Board of Education Election for Teacher Member Underway

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is in the middle of the election cycle for the Maryland State Board of Education Teacher Member.

Earlier this month, the State Board of Education held a general election between 15 candidates for the board’s teacher member position. The teacher member is a voting member of the State Board who “provides leadership, sets policy, and advocates for continuous improvement of Maryland’s educational system on behalf of the State’s students.”

According to the State Board’s website:

All individuals with an active Maryland teaching certificate will be eligible to cast one vote in the election. Eligible certificate holders will receive voting instructions and a unique code sent to their email address on file in the MSDE Educator System. The individual with the most votes will win the election, and their name will be forwarded to the Governor for appointment to the Maryland State Board of Education.
