St. Mary’s County has earned a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The award is a significant achievement and reflects the County’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
“St. Mary’s County Government has long adhered to strong budgetary practices, and this is just one more example of the excellent work done by our Department of Finance. Congratulations to Jeannett Cudmore, our CFO, and her entire staff for this award,” said Commissioner President Randy Guy.
To receive the award, the County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for an effective budget presentation that assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.
In addition, budget documents must earn a “proficient” rating in all four categories and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories.
There are over 1,600 participants in the Budget Awards Program, and the most recent award recipients are posted quarterly on GFOA’s website (www.gfoa.org). Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
