Louis Winston Selected as Howard’s New Chief of Fire and Rescue

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has named Louis Winston as the next Chief of the Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS). Executive Ball commended Mr. Winston, who currently serves as HCDFRS’s deputy chief, stating:

Lou Winston is a long-time respected and admired member of the fire service. He is an innovative and progressive leader who has the experience to carry on the traditions of our Department while shaping and preparing it for the future. I have complete confidence in his ability to lead a department that is a model and national standard for excellence.

According to Executive Ball’s press release, Mr. Winston has been a member of HCDFRS since February 12, 1990, and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Homeland Security from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC).

“It has been my absolute honor to serve 30 years with the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services and I thank County Executive Ball for the opportunity to lead this great department,” said Winston. “As a servant leader, I recognize the importance of the growth and well-being of people and communities. I look forward to leading the Department with open, honest and transparent collaborative leadership that embraces the diversity and inclusion of Howard County to help maintain safe and engaged communities.”
