MACo’s Summer Conference is coming up August 18-21, 2021, and is completely IN-PERSON at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, MD. Join us for insightful and beneficial sessions focusing on local government challenges and priorities.
The past year has shined a bright light on the need for changes to policing that will help ensure equitable treatment and improve accountability. County governments have much work to do to be ready to put Maryland’s new reforms into practice by July 1, 2022.
Police Reforms: Putting Policies into Practice
Passage of a suite of police reform bills will shake the nature of police oversight and accountability, training, transparency, and liability. Where will we land with officer discipline records and procedures? What new training will become essential? What new structures will your county need to create and maintain? Panelists will walk through all of these questions as we work through the space between the bills’ passage and their taking effect next year.
Speakers:
- Al Liebno, Executive Director, Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions
- Darren Popkin, Sheriff, Montgomery County
- Senator Jill P. Carter, Esq., District 41, Baltimore City
Date/Time: Friday, August 20, 2021; 2:15 pm – 3:15 pm
