The MACo Book Club is Back! August 20 Virtual Meeting, “Collapse” By Jared Diamond

MACo is proud to continue its recent tradition – a “Book Club” meeting as part of our summertime offerings. The group has traditionally focused on books dealing with public policy and leadership – this summer’s offering is Jared Diamond’s “Collapse.”

MACo is proud to renew a recent tradition, a good-government themed Book Club for county officials and other stakeholders. Recent iterations have brought conference attendees together to discuss leadership, innovative budgeting, customer service, and time management. This year, even without a face-to-face conference offering, MACo will host a virtual Book Club meeting at 4pm, Thursday August 20.

“Brilliant, illuminating, and immensely absorbing, Collapse is destined to take its place as one of the essential books of our time, raising the urgent question: How can our world best avoid committing ecological suicide?

In his million-copy bestseller Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond examined how and why Western civilizations developed the technologies and immunities that allowed them to dominate much of the world. Now in this brilliant companion volume, Diamond probes the other side of the equation: What caused some of the great civilizations of the past to collapse into ruin, and what can we learn from their fates?”

jpmorgan-copyMACo is deeply grateful to JP Morgan, who has contributed sponsorship to support the Book Club meeting.

With their support, MACo is glad to announce:

-MACo will provide free copies of the selected book to the 25 people who commit to participating in the Book Club online meeting.

-Participants who have registered for MACo’s “Summer Series” will be given preference for this benefit. If you have not yet registered for this summertime enrichment offering (still several weeks of content left, and many topics available via recording), please visit the Summer Series website.

Interested? Great! Contact MACo Administrative Coordinator Allison Valliant to request your copy of the book.
