Rather than expand an existing police training facility, Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks has proposed funding the development of a new public health facility.
A total of $20 million initially intended to fund the expansion of the police facility would be shifted towards building the public health facility.
Maryland Matters reports:
Alsobrooks said the new facility will treat mental health and addiction. The health facility would be built using money originally in the county police department’s budget for a new public safety training facility.
…
It will ultimately be up to the County Council to add the health facility to the existing bond legislation for voters to decide in November, according to a news release.
The article also notes that Alsobrooks will create a community workgroup to recommend police reforms.
