The Rural Maryland Council (RMC) recently hosted their day-long Summit, titled Rural Maryland Rising: Investing in Resiliency, Collaboration, and Innovation.
The focus of this year’s Summit was creating sustainable change. Leaders from across the state presented examples of their communities solutions to complex issues in agriculture, aquaculture and forestry, healthcare, community and economic development. The summit included breakout sessions, a preview of the 2020 General Assembly Session and a luncheon panel with Maryland cabinet secretaries and department leadership. Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford welcomed attendees to the event and Paul Costello, Ph.D., executive director of the Vermont Council on Rural Development gave the keynote speech.
The Summit featured AgShowcase19, a TED-style talk about the changing face of agriculture in Maryland, and around the country. The first place showcase winner was Ovipost of Cordova – a company that automates cricket farming for broad use throughout the agricultural supply chain. Three other companies tied for second place.
Photos and additional details on the summit can be found in the article published by The BayNet, or by visiting Rural Maryland Council’s website.
