The National Center on Education and the Economy, a nonprofit fueling much of the work of Maryland’s Kirwan Commission, presented a panel discussion of the Maryland vision, with suggestions that this marks a national new direction for school funding and expectations.
On June 6, the National Center on Education and the Economy hosted a forum to discuss the approach embedded in Maryland’s Kirwan Commission. The non-profit and its Director Marc Tucker have played a major role in the Maryland study effort. Tucker hosted the centerpiece panel along with Dr. Brit Kirwan (Commission Chair) and Rachel Hise (its lead professional staffer).
Full information on the panel discussion is available online at the NCEE site.
The Center also prepared a 22-page “brief” to describe the Maryland efforts, in summary. Their title for the presentation and brief, “A Blueprint for the Nation,” underlines their belief that the proposed new direction for school funding and accountability in Maryland is an emerging national model.
