The Green Rush? Cannabusiness in Maryland Counties at #MACoCon

MACo’s Summer Conference will be August 16-19, 2017. The theme is “You’re Hired!” and sessions will focus on economic development and ways counties can contribute to job growth in Maryland. Part of that discussion will focus on the emerging”cannabusiness” industry and how it will affect Maryland’s counties. In a session exploring this issue, participants will hear perspectives from a professor who teaches Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Emerging Markets: Marijuana Legalization, which looks at job creation as an outgrowth of the legalization of marijuana, and from an attorney specializing in cannabis law.

The Green Rush? Cannabusiness in Maryland Counties

It has been said that the people who profited from the Gold Rush were not the ones mining for gold, but the people who sold them the picks and shovels. As the medical cannabis industry continues to advance and legitimize, mainstream professionals are increasingly interested in economizing on this opportunity. Being a new – and unique – enterprise, many entrepreneurs struggle with how to best leverage this emerging industry…and counties struggle with how to fit these “cannabis-adjacent” businesses into their communities, economies, and local policies. In this session, learn about the growing “cannabusiness” industry, the challenges and opportunities it presents, and what you need to know as a county government official moving forward.

Speakers:

  • Shad Ewart, Professor, Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Emerging Markets: Marijuana Legalization, Anne Arundel Community College
  • Jason Klein, Esq., Principal, Bethesda Office, Offit Kurman, Attorneys At Law

Moderator: The Honorable Brian J. Feldman, Maryland State Senate
