The Baltimore Sun reports:

Vaughn, a Prince George’s County Democrat, cited “ongoing health challenges” as the reason for his resignation in a brief letter sent to House Speaker Michael E. Busch. His resignation is effective immediately.

“It has been an honor to serve in the House with you and represent the great people of the 24th District in Prince George’s County,” Vaughn wrote in his letter.

Vaughn did not respond to a request for comment

Vaughn, 59, joined the legislature in 2003 and, as deputy majority whip, was part of the House leadership team. He was also sat on the House Economic Matters Committee.

He is a former investment adviser, a real estate agent and married with three children, according to state records.
