Last week’s trivia stumped the crowd. Cecil County is where Washington visited to watch for the British sailing up the Chesapeake in August 1777.
As described by Cecil County Tourism,
On August 25th, prior to the landing of the British, General George Washington traveled through pouring rain to reach Delaware and then Cecil County. He came to observe their situation, knowing that the British were sailing up the Chesapeake Bay. Washington stayed at Head of Elk in a hotel owned by Jacob Hollingsworth.
