Allegany County has received a prestigious national award for its accounting and financial reporting. The Allegany County Department of Finance won the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, provided for its FY 2015 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

This award-winning CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program. This is the 24th consecutive year that this highly respected national award was received by the Allegany County Department of Finance. Twenty-nine percent of counties with a population of 50,000 – 99,999 received the award.

The Allegany County Commissioners, Jacob C. Shade, Creade V. Brodie, Jr., and William R. Valentine, commended Jason M. Bennett, CPA, Director of Finance, and Pamela S. Diaz, CPA, Assistant Director of Finance, for this impressive achievement.

Commissioner Shade commented: “Bennett and Diaz are true financial professionals who capably manage complex and extensive responsibilities. Allegany County’s citizens and stakeholders are well served by the Allegany County Department of Finance.” Bennett credited Diaz as “the key individual responsible for this highly coveted national award.”

Bennett joined Allegany County Government in November 2003 and became the Director of Finance in May 2011. Diaz was hired in February 2006 and has served as the Assistant Director of Finance since July 2013.
