LGIT’s Employment Hotline: Free, Valuable Member Service

The Local Government Insurance Trust (LGIT) is owned and overseen by its member local governments, and provides insurance and risk management services in a competitive marketplace. LGIT proudly touts its remarkable retention rate as evidence of competitive rates and outstanding customer service.

Among other offerings, LGIT members get access to a free Employment Law Hotline, offering legal guidance on employment issues. From the LGIT website:

The Employment Law Hotline is available at no charge to LGIT members of the Primary Liability Pool. It provides members with direct access to a licensed Maryland attorney at Karpinski, Colaresi, and Karp P.A., during normal business hours, who will answer legal questions and help resolve specific issues and situations that arise in the workplace. These attorneys can provide up to 30 minutes of free legal advice for each employment issue.

The attorneys will help resolve a wide range of employment-related issues that could result in costly litigation. They will provide sound legal advice on a wide array of employment issues and statutes, including, but not limited to:

Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Racial, gender or religious discrimination
Unlawful harassment claims

In the unfortunate event that a member finds itself involved in litigation based upon an employment decision, they should be in a better position to defend itself if they used the Employment Law Hotline before making an employment decision.

And for members who use the hotline in advance of a legal claim, a financial incentive:

Financial Benefit for Using the Employment Law Hotline

If a member uses the Employment Law Hotline before making an employment decision, and the matter later results in litigation, the member’s deductible for that matter will be reduced by half.
