Secretary Schulz listens to a question from the audience at the Tri-County Council of Southern Maryland Meeting in Solomons Island.

“We want industries to be excited to be here,” said Kelly M. Schulz, Secretary, Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation in her address to the Southern Maryland Tri-County Council yesterday evening in Solomons Island. The Secretary was speaking with the group for the first time since she assumed her new position five months ago.  At their last meeting, the Council heard from Secretary Mike Gill of the Department of Business and Economic Development.

In her remarks, the Secretary shared her dedication to the four stakeholders of business in Maryland: employers, employees, consumers, and government – at the local, state, and federal levels. She described the need to improve customer service in the broader sense, as it relates to the experience of each of those stakeholders working with the Agency. The Secretary reported that she is already receiving some positive feedback from businesses about changes at the Agency since she has taken office.

Economic development in Maryland is a theme of this year’s Summer Conference in Ocean City, August 12-15. The Conference, Energize. Mobilize. Capitalize., is  about the challenges we can address, the actions we can take, and the strengths we can leverage to achieve the best gains for Maryland’s counties and citizens.
