Cecil County Approves School Building Purchase

As reported in the Cecil Daily, the Cecil County Council has approved a resolution that would allow the purchase of the former Basell building in Elkton in order to expand the current Cecil County School of Technology.

For the last eight years, school officials have considered various options to meet the needs of the annual waiting list of 150 students seeking entrance into the school. . . [Cecil County School Superintendent] Devine pointed out the Basell opportunity would meet the career and technology needs of the school system at a much lesser cost than any of the other options, which ranged from $40 million to $60 million. . . The Basell project is estimated to cost a total of $18.8 million, including purchase, engineering, site work, construction and equipment.
