MCAA Recognizes County Correctional Officers and Installs New Officers at Conference

The Maryland Correctional Administrators Association (MCAA) recognized installed new officers and honored county and State corrections employees as part of its 38th Annual Conference on June 2.  MCAA is a MACo affiliate that includes State and county corrections officials, sheriffs who oversee local jails, and other allied local and State agencies.

MCAA recognized 31 county and State correctional officers and civilian employees for their outstanding contributions in the field of corrections at an awards banquet.  Additionally, outgoing MCAA President and Prince George’s County Department of Corrections Director Mary Lou McDonough ended her term and St. Mary’s County Commander of Corrections Michael Merican was sworn in as the new President.

The MCAA conference runs from June 1 – 4 and is titled “Navigating Correctional Landmines.”  Educational panels focused on correctional hiring practices, the proper handling of inmates who refuse to cooperate, and interacting with individuals who are part of the “sovereign citizen” movement.
