Approximately 40 county planners, environmental health officers, and other county officials attended a forum at MACo to discuss the implementation of the Sustainable Growth and Agricultural Preservation Act of 2012 (SB 236). The legislation prohibits new major subdivisions on septic systems unless a county adopts a system of land use “tiers.” Officials from the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) provided a brief overview of the legislation and responded to audience questions and comments for three hours.
Areas of discussion included grandfathering, defining the tiers, adoption into local comprehensive plans, integration with PlanMaryland planning areas, and numerous other topics.
