Frederick County has launched the “Frederick WORKS! One Job at a Time” (FCWS) initiative to encourage businesses to participate in the county’s unemployment solution, by creating and/or filling at least one new job in 2012. The goal of the program is to have 1,000 of Frederick County’s approximately 8,500 businesses join the effort. If accomplished, the county’s unemployment rate would drop from 6.1 percent to 5.3 percent., The Gazette reports. Laurie Holden, FCWS Director stated:
“If each business in Frederick were to hire just one person this year, the economic impact would be enormous. Even if only a small portion of our businesses hired just one person this year, there would still be a significant and measurable impact on our local economy.”
