MACo Associate Director Andrea Mansfield joined Candace Donoho, Director of Government Relations from the Maryland Municipal League to support HB 203 before the House Economic Matters Committee on Tuesday, February 15. HB 203 would clarify that Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Dorchester, Kent, Somerset, Washington, and Worcester counties fall under the statewide scrap metal legislation that passed last year.
MACo and the law enforcement community have worked for three years towards strengthening regulation of this industry. This legislation finally passed last year. This bill ensures the licensing requirements and prohibitions on purchases apply statewide which is consistent with the legislative intent of Chapter 198 and 199 or 2010. MACo’s testimony on HB 203 urges the Committee to issue a favorable report to provide for the uniform statewide regulation of this industry.
