Baltimore City Launches Property Tax Payment Plan Program

Baltimore City is introducing a new option for homeowners with past-due property taxes, allowing eligible residents to enroll in monthly payment plans rather than facing an all-or-nothing deadline.

The program, now open for enrollment through May 12, offers a structured path for residents to catch up on delinquent taxes and avoid tax sale.

From the press release:

“Overdue property tax bills should never be the reason that any Baltimorean – especially a legacy resident – loses their home,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “Before now, residents didn’t have a realistic way to catch up on these bills and stay in their homes. This program changes that. I encourage every eligible residential property owner to enroll in a plan by May 12.”

Historically, Baltimore homeowners with overdue property taxes were required to pay their full balance by a set deadline or risk tax sale, leaving limited options for those unable to pay in full.

The new Residential Property Tax Payment Plan Program formalizes a more structured approach, allowing participants to:

  • enroll online
  • make monthly payments based on their financial situation
  • begin with a low initial payment
  • address past-due balances from prior tax years

Participants who remain in good standing under the plan are protected from the 2026 tax sale. While some jurisdictions may offer limited or case-by-case payment arrangements, programs like Baltimore’s provide a more accessible and standardized option for homeowners to address delinquent taxes.
