U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius unveiled the Community Health Data Initiative , featuring the Network of Care, earlier this month in Washington, D.C. The innovative health-data project is a result of the partnership’s between NACo, Triology Integrated Resources, LLC, and the Healthy Communities Institute. Sonoma County, CA provided a model of the project where a “community dashboard” gauges the health status of communities based on metrics like vegetable consumption and obesity. NACo President Valerie Brown believes that the Network of Care is a vehicle to make tangible progress at the local level. Brown stated,
“Through NACo’s Network of Care for Healthy Communities Project, we want to provide communities the information and tools to not just recognize health problems, but use evidence-based programs to improve the health and quality of life in our counties. We feel that collaboration with the HHS Community Health Data Initiative would be a terrific example of all levels of government and private innovation working together on common goals.”
NACo is looking to take the project nationwide.
