Frederick County Council: Donald Wins by 25 Votes

On Friday, November 14, the final ballots were counted and Jerry Donald won the Frederick County Council District 1 seat by 25 votes.

The Frederick News-Post reported

Friday’s canvass of the last remaining ballots raised Donald’s vote total to 8,234, while his Republican opponent, Ellen Bartlett, ended up 25 votes behind with 8,209. The figures bring some long-awaited finality to a race that has been uncertain since the general election earlier this month.

While most candidates learned on Nov. 4 whether they had prevailed, both Donald and Bartlett have had to wait for more than a week for answers. Provisional and absentee ballots became all-important because of the narrow margin between Bartlett and Donald, and in recent days, the two Council District 1 candidates have several times switched places in the election standings as vote totals continued to trickle in.
