The Maryland Department of Labor and its Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) division has released additional resources to help employers prepare for upcoming paid leave program requirements, including guidance on employee localization, self-insured plan requirements, and employer registration.
The Department has published guidance to help employers determine whether an employee is localized in Maryland and, therefore, subject to the state’s FAMLI program. Access policy guidance on localization.
Employers considering a self-insured FAMLI plan can also review a self-insured plan application preview, which outlines the statutory citations and requirements that plans must meet or exceed. The document is intended to help employers understand the requirements in advance and is not the formal application. Applications for self-insured plans are not expected to open until summer 2027.
To help employers navigate registration, the Department has released a video demonstrating the employer registration process, including identity verification. Employers with registration questions can also access information about the program’s registration-specific webinar through the FAMLI website.
