Charles County sees tight primary races for some Democratic candidates with most Republican candidates running unopposed.
The Charles County Commission consists of five members. One Commission President is elected at-large and the four remaining positions are elected by district.
President, Board of County Commissioners – Amanda Stewart (D) won the Democratic primary with 51 percent of the vote against two contenders. Joe Crawford (R) ran unopposed and will move on to the general election. Incumbent Reuben Collins II (D) ran for election to the US House of Representatives District 5.
District 1 – Incumbent Gilbert Bowling (D) is narrowly leading by one point against Dezmond A. Rosier (D). Walton Merchant (R) was unopposed.
District 2 – Brandon A. Paulin (D) is leading a group of six with 22 percent, followed closely by Cheryl D. Butler-Walker (D) with 21 percent. Alorah D. Vantassell (R) ran unopposed.
District 3 – Julian D. Clark (R) ran unopposed. McKayla Wilkes (D) won with 65 percent of the vote. Incumbent Amanda Stewart (D) ran for Commission President.
District 4 – Incumbent Ralph E. Patterson II (D) did not have a Democratic or Republican challenger.
